FTS provided Instructor Training is designed around the concept that if hazards are not being eliminated, then the organization is not compliant. Furthermore, forklift training is considered adult learning, and if it is complicated then the wrong habits will continue. That is what the “SET” method is all about; Simple, Effective, & Trackable.
The PIT Instructor Course adds tremendous value to the user because there is a higher probability of the right habits for the long term.
Instructor Training (AKA Train the Trainer) by FTS is something that should be considered primarily by companies that intend to train & certify their own operators. The classes are designed to take the candidates to a professional level of competency in facilitating classes, supervising over their particular forklift operation, and managing a training program.
This service is also good for managers, supervisors, and safety professionals who oversee the operators and pedestrians in that particular environment. That is because the training covers the breadth of proper operations, leadership and development, and administration topics that bring new insight and understanding of the work environment and people they oversee.
In many cases, instructor training is not practical for certain applications, and in those cases, it is recommended that the supervisors attend operator classes. However, in cases where it is even only marginally practical, it is recommended because of the increased understanding of what it takes to have a forklift operation that reduces the potential for serious accidents and the enormous cost that ensues afterward.
Instructor Training always starts with a full certification on the Powered Industrial Trucks that the training is being used in that particular workplace. The certification is the instructor version of Operator Training. There are many reasons for this, but the primary reasons are that it gives the candidates an in-depth look at what a class should look like, how to safely evaluate operators, and to make sure that the candidates are very familiar with the equipment they are to be training on.
After the certification, the leadership, program management, and class facilitation aspects of the role are taught in the classroom.
